Carnival time: Pasistas & Batucadas in Gualeguaychu 2009, Argentina

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in carnivals | 22 Comments »

Watch a better quality version at Welcome Argentina channel in YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvbR3b6XpTw

During Saturdays in January and February, and the first Saturday of March, the 2009 Gualeguaychu Carnival in Argentina transmits the audience happiness and make participants and viewers become infected with the audacious rhythm of the “batucadas” and the sexy dancing of the “pasistas” (main paraders), as they enjoy a show teeming with unprecedented brightness, light and sound.

The significant size of the Gualeguaychú “corsódromo” (carnival stadium) has enabled the “comparsas” to enlarge not only their squads but also the size of their floats, which are out of reach for any other carnival in the country.

This celebration and its artistic display have been around for over 20 years and is considered one of the most important carnival parades on earth, along with the carnivals of Rio de Janeiro and Venice.

What is the round thing called at carnivals that spins you around?

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by admin in carnivals | 5 Comments »

The thing has three rings and you are locked in it and people push the rings and it makes you flip in all directions!
Its not a ride, Rachael Ray had one on her show today with the host from Survivor in it!

It’s called a Human Gyroscope.

Are people with pacemakers allowed at carnivals?

Posted on February 26th, 2010 by admin in carnivals | 1 Comment »

I know they can’t have cellphones and magnets near them so i wondering if going to carnivals for kids was appropriate?

People w/ pacemakers can have & use cellphones and I-pods but should keep them (as well as magnets) about 6 inches from their device. Most carnival rides are safe for people with pacemakers unless they have other heart conditions as well–if a ride has warning that people w/ medical conditions or pregnancy shouldn’t ride–then I’d pass on that particular ride.

Is working at festivals and carnivals as a lemonade vendor a lucrative business?

Posted on February 24th, 2010 by admin in carnivals | 1 Comment »

I am interested in becoming a lemonade vendor at festivals, carnivals and other events. I have no experience in the field. Is it difficult to get started? Will I make good money? I am interested in any information abailable.
Thank you,
B.

Easy to get started, and beats a second job. Contact the festivals and carnivals for their requirement to allow you to set up there.

Carnival Parade. St. Thomas, 2007

The last two days of Carnival are two parades with music, dance and outrageous costumes from the troupes. The Children’s Parade was Friday and lasted 6 hours. The Adult Parade was Saturday and lasted 9 hours. St. Thomas has one of the best carnivals in the world. Next year, come and join us.

what are the laws in Tennessee governing the awarding or selling reptiles in carnivals and fairs?

Posted on February 19th, 2010 by admin in carnivals | 4 Comments »

I am against the trading, selling or awarding reptile in carnivals and fairs in Tennessee. Does anyone know what the laws are concerning this matter? Where can I get copies of these rules for Lawrencenurg, or for Tennessee as a whole state?

The State Code in Tennessee, section 39-17-101, makes it an offense "for a person to display, exhibit, handle, or use a poisonous or dangerous snake or reptile in such manner as to endanger the life or health of any person." It doesn’t mention religious gatherings; a tourist-trap snake show along the interstate could just as well violate this statute.

Tennessee
A person must obtain a permit in order to propagate Class I or Class II wildlife; Class II wildlife includes: nonpoisonous reptiles and amphibians except caimans and gavials; (wich fall under Class I)
TENN. CODE ANN. §§ 70-4-403, 70-4-410

I am working on more directly answering your question, but this is what i have found so far. What i need to know is are these snakes indigenous to your area. For example I am from California and it is illegal to sell wild caught snakes from that area. Meaning i can buy a King Snake but i can not buy a California King Snake that was not legally captively bred.

This link says it is Compiled and Edited Tennessee Laws Pertaining to Animals 2004

Natalie Merchant – Carnival – Live, 1995

I’ve walked these streets
A virtual stage
It seemed to me
Make up on their faces
Actors took their
Places next to me

I’ve walked these streets
In a carnival
Of sights to see
All the cheap thrill seekers
The vendors and the dealers
They crowded around me

Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside myself and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have seen?

I’ve walked these streets
In a spectacle of wealth and poverty
In the diamond market
The scarlet welcome carpet
That they just rolled out for me

I’ve walked these streets
In the mad house asylum
They can be
Where a wild eyed misfit prophet
On a traffic island stopped
And he raved of saving me

Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside myself and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have seen?

Have I been wrong
Have I been wise
To shut my eyes
And play along
Hypnotized
Paralyzed
By what my eyes have found
By what my eyes have seen
What they have seen?

Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Have I been wrong
Have I been wise
Have I been strong
Have I been
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have found
In that great street carnival
In that carnival?
