Natalie Merchant – Carnival – Live, 1995
I’ve walked these streets
A virtual stage
It seemed to me
Make up on their faces
Actors took their
Places next to me
I’ve walked these streets
In a carnival
Of sights to see
All the cheap thrill seekers
The vendors and the dealers
They crowded around me
Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside myself and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have seen?
I’ve walked these streets
In a spectacle of wealth and poverty
In the diamond market
The scarlet welcome carpet
That they just rolled out for me
I’ve walked these streets
In the mad house asylum
They can be
Where a wild eyed misfit prophet
On a traffic island stopped
And he raved of saving me
Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside myself and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have seen?
Have I been wrong
Have I been wise
To shut my eyes
And play along
Hypnotized
Paralyzed
By what my eyes have found
By what my eyes have seen
What they have seen?
Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Have I been wrong
Have I been wise
Have I been strong
Have I been
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have found
In that great street carnival
In that carnival?

I think Natalie …
I think Natalie puts so much of herself into the songs she sings that it’s obvious they come from her heart. I love watching her videos and the music is great, too.

I too am a PF fan. …
I too am a PF fan. Been listening to and playing their music for more years than I care to admit to. Been fortunate enough to see them 5 times (3 with Mr Waters).
Just can’t see why people want to give some one such critisism for what was probably not much more than ” here you go son, play this.”
Now if i could just get off this sofa and find the remote!

FatOldSun999 is a …
FatOldSun999 is a reference to a pink floyd song. Most PF fans really know music and how it is made. As a PF fan I tend to agree with him but not as harshly. The guitar is not bad just different. If anything I would say the guitar amp was not mic’ed well and has no reverb at all.
I play bass so that is my arm chair opinion.

What is it with all …
What is it with all the comments about the guitar playing? It’s the house band. It’s never going to sound like the album cut. Sid McGinnis probably had next to no time at all to come up with HIS interpretation of the guitar part.
As for FatOldSun999′s comments. Does he actually play or are we another arm chair expert? Most top players use 15 – 20watt amps, it lets you drive them. And I guess he wouldn’t know good tone if it bit him on the ASS!

Definitely notice …
Definitely notice the Jen turner magic missing, splashy and bubbly licks. Each NM video has something neat about it. The world has changed, Youth and Tigerlilly days are over for her. Shes a total package and writes, arranges, produces, it would be nice to have some electric rocking songs from her in addition to unplugged poetry. She could use the internet more to experiment with what people perceive about her gift.

I wonder why people get caught up with he labels liberal/conservative?
Describe yourself as yourself and that’s it.
We decide our position with respect to ISSUES not along another’s spectrum.

Love Natalie …
Love Natalie however, she can be a bit intense sometimes. I would classify 85 percent of her material as art rock, and the rest as folk rock. Have purchased just about everything she has been part of since her early days. I think I understand her a little, and believe she is a very kind person with good intent, but very liberal in her view points, but that’s ok with this conservative, because I love her from head to toe.

This guitarist’s …
This guitarist’s tone is shite verse Turner’s. Was she ill or something? Her leads were raw…this guy’s tone sounds like a high school kid trying to cover Dave Gilmour through a 15 watt amp.
