How can you tell the if carnival glass is old?

I’m interested in starting to collect Northwood Grape & Cable carnival glass in amethyst. I’ve seen some pieces with an embossed "N" on the bottom and some not. I’m not sure if that is a telling point on the age of the piece or not. But any help would be appreciated.
