Are carnival cruises as bad as people say they are?

So I want to go on a cruise and I”m stuck between royal caribbean and carnival and carnival is alot less and it seems nice and fun but alot of people say that it’s horrible service and food while others say that they are wonderful and boring. I just want to know which is it horrible or wonderful.

It depends what you’re wanting from a cruise. If you want more of a fun cruiseship with gambling, drinking, less formal dining, go with carnival.

If, on the other hand, you prefer the ‘traditional’ cruise where you get fairly dressed up for dinner, etc., I’d go with royal carribean.

I’ve personally only been on a carnival cruise with my family when I was a teenager…..my parents chose that one because it was cheaper, as you’ve apparently already noticed =). It wasn’t a bad experience, but my parents, who have been on the princess and royal carribean lines much preferred the more upscale ones to carnival.

I can’t really compare, as I’ve never been on royal carribean, but I enjoyed my time on carnival….there wasn’t a lot to do in terms of on-board entertainment because I wasn’t of legal age to drink, gamble, see a lot of the shows, etc., so if you don’t like doing that kind of stuff, I wouldn’t recommend carnival

Carnival is cheaper for a reason. The ships aren’t as nice or big. BUT they are a lot of fun. i think you might have a better time on royal caribbean but i still think you would enjoy Carnival.

They’e both cruises! You’ll have fun no matter which one you’re on. The food and service are just as good, and there are just as many activities and shows. RCI typically has bigger ships with more onboard activities, but Carnival has its merits to. And if price is an object (and these days, of course it is) then Carnival is the right choice.

I, too, have heard both horror stories and "it was the BEST EVER" about Carnival. I suspect it depends on what your interests and preferences are. Carnival does have a lot of fans, and a lot of repeat-passengers. I do know that it is not for me, but that’s OK.

We’ve been on Carnival 4 times now and have had a blast every time. I’ve heard that RCCL has fancier ships, but is more money too. Carnival has world class food, not to worry. I’d say Carnival is the best bang for the buck.

I have been on 12 cruises on 4 different lines. I can say without any doubt that Carnival is my favorite.

It has a much more relaxed atmosphere and bigger rooms.

RCL is fine if you want fancy, but it just isn’t worth the higher price to me.

Carnival is known as the fun ships…. and that’s what they are
